Why site attendance is harder than office attendance
A construction workforce moves. Crews start at one site and finish at another, headcount changes weekly, and there is rarely a fixed door to install a scanner on. Paper muster sheets get wet, get copied late, and cannot be checked against anything once the week has closed.
Capture at the site, not at head office
- Register each active site as its own work location
- Let the site supervisor record the crew from a phone
- Stamp location and time on the record so it can be reviewed later
- Allow capture to continue when signal drops and sync afterwards
Separate direct labour from subcontracted crews
Direct employees flow into payroll with tax and seniority obligations. Subcontracted crews are usually settled against a contract or a measured quantity instead. Recording both in the same undifferentiated list is what makes month-end painful — tag the crew type at the point of capture and the two streams stay separable all the way through.
Hand payroll something it can trust
- Lock the period once supervisors have confirmed their sites
- Review overtime and absence exceptions before, not after, the run
- Keep the approval trail attached to each site and supervisor
- Report cost by site so project margins stay visible
